Tough terrain: Tapuika has almost finished their first toxin op
To reduce pest numbers and prevent reinvasion in their 700-hectare project area, Tapuika will visit 647 bait stations five times over their 5-6 week toxin operation.
This includes two pre-feed rounds (ensuring pests become accustomed to the bait stations), followed by two toxin applications—Feratox in the pine forestry and Double Tap in the native ngahere—and one final collection of any unused toxin.
Interim results have been promising with significant bait uptake, and dead possums, near roads and ridgelines, highlighting "highways" where pests can move freely.
Ka rawe Tapuika! We can't wait to see the final results.

A key aspect of the Kaimai Mamaku Restoration Project is whanaungatanga. Wairere Mahi were out helping Tapuika finish their toxin operation.
